Love Valentines Day
I believe my love affair with the "love day" began when i was young. Couldn't wait to get those generic little snoopy valentines in our handmade sacks when i was young. Say 2nd, 3rd, 4th gradeish. I always had crushes and the hope of getting a valentine from them meant maybe they liked you. When in reality every kid gave every classmate a valentine anyway. The fun creativity of cutting out red hearts from construction paper and displaying them on our valentine sacks. The cute red, heart shirt i had picked out to wear that day. The fun earrings and goodies my mom would give us 3 girls. This is when it all began.
To this day, my mom still sends us fun red, cheesy, heart stuff for V-day. Last year i got a robe and slippers from Nordys that say J'Taime all over them. So fun to get that in the mail. The thing is you feel dumb wearing this cheesy stuff any other day. So you must utilize your cute silky heart and kiss panties on the day. A couple years back my mom sent all our boyfriends heart shaped candles. I remember Alan opening it and going what? Where the hell am i going to put this? Of course how does my mom have any idea what to buy boys? It was sweet though.
I get excited when the day approaches. My mail box is filled with all sorts of red, and pink catalogs with darling little accessories. I get so excited to look at it all but i never buy it. Williams and Sonoma with their yummy pink dishes and chocolate molten cake on the cover. So when i was in high school my best friend, Caron, and i dated boys that were best friends. We went overboard probably 3 years in a row. One year we found this heart shaped pasta. We cooked this fabulous italian meal, followed by a heart shaped ice cream cake. We had big red candles burning on the table. We were so romantic. Every year i always get red roses- exept the past 2. I remember everyone in our sorority house in college running in the foyer from class to check and see who had rec'd their roses. What naive excitement it all was.
This fairytale of a day filled with love is something i am not willing to give up. I love it no matter if i have a "valentine" or not. This year i plan to do it up. It might be just my roomate and i-either way it is sure to be filled with pink, red, roses, hearts, romantic hopes, red wine, and a package from my mom!
